9/28/2012 10:20:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Riverside—UC Riverside's Men's Soccer Team found itself trailing 2-1 late in the second half Friday night pushing for the equalizer against #3 UC Santa Barbara. But Ivan Garcia picked up a red card with 10:47 to go, and the Gauchos capitalized a mere 19 seconds later for the final 3-1 margin of victory (Box Score).
The Highlanders (7-2-0, 0-1-0) were looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season last Sunday, and pick up their third consecutive victory over UCSB (7-0-2, 1-0-0), but Ema Boateng put the Gauchos on the board in the 13th minute of play thanks to an assist from Charlie Miller.
Eight minutes later, Eric Gonzalez found Hayden Leslie in the box, and Leslie's header dropped at Ruben Valencia's feet where the junior tied the match by slotting the ball past UCSB keeper Austin Mansker.
The match was still tied at one early in the second period when Nic Ryan grabbed a loose ball at the edge of the Highlanders defensive 18 and beat Ashkan Khosravi to put the Gauchos back on top.
Garcia was whistled for a foul 10 minutes later on a slide tackle, and Miller put the final score on the board with 10:28 to go.
The Highlanders are back in action at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium on Sunday at 1 pm as they square off against Cal Poly.
