Box Score - Pacific 3, UC Riverside 0
Stockton, CA - The UC Riverside Volleyball Team (5-12, 0-4) continued its Northern California road trip Saturday evening with a 25-23, 25-18, and 25-20 loss at Pacific (14-2, 2-1) in Big West Conference action.
Both Amanda Vialpando and Ashley Cox recorded double-doubles for the Highlanders, tallying 15 kills and 10 digs, and 12 kills and 10 digs respectively.
The first set was a see-saw battle with 10 tie scores throughout, the last coming at 21-21. Two straight kills from the Tigers and a UCR error put Pacific up at set-point, 24-21, but the Highlanders used a Vialpando kill and a Megan Reza service ace to close to one, 24-23.
After a Tigers timeout, UCR's rally fell just short as a service error lifted Pacific to a 25-23 win.
Set two was a similarly close one with seven tie scores and four lead changes. The tides turned as the Tigers rallied from a 16-16 tie by scoring three consecutive to open a 19-16 lead. UC Riverside got one back, but Pacific closed out the set on a 6-1 run to earn the 25-18 victory.
UCR had the early 5-3 lead in the third set, but eight tie scores through 12-12 knotted things up. Pacific then scored the next two points to go up 14-12, and it would be a lead they never relinquished the remainder of the set, going on to win 25-20.
Next up for UC Riverside is a Saturday, October 6 match against Cal State Fullerton at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
