Men's Tennis Defeated By #50 Fresno State, 4-0

Fresno, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team returned to the courts Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 loss at #50 Fresno State.
"The men played well today," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "Fresno State (#50) was tough but we stepped up our games and nearly surprised them."
In doubles action, the Bulldogs earned an 8-3 victory at number one and an 8-5 win at number two to claim the first point of the match. The #3 doubles match was left unfinished, but UCR's Jimmy Roberts and Simon Peters were poised to take the match when the point was won by FSU.
"The doubles is really coming together and we were right there today," Downey continued.
The first three singles matches then went in favor of Fresno State with victories at numbers 5, 4, and 1, as the required four points were gained to earn the win.
"Julian Ruffin and Luis Gastao were playing solid matches before they were called per tournament rules," Downey explained. "They are all working better together. It's great to see.
Good things are coming because we are really improving. It is an exciting time for the program as we build for the future." Downey concluded.
The Highlanders now have almost two weeks off to prepare for three matches in three days in Las Vegas, NV on February 1-3.
