Las Cruces, New Mexico—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team moved up four spots to conclude the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in seventh place out of 17 teams on Tuesday firing a 288 third-round score thanks to a 69 from Jason Semthiti, a 71 from Sam Gillis, a 73 from Brandon Tsuijimoto, and a 75 from David Gazzolo.
"The team continues to show improvement and most importantly gain experience as we work through new experiences," Director of Golf/Head Men's Coach Eric Riehle stated. "It is a process with such a young team, but I am very happy with the progress."
UCR's three-round total of 884 was only one stroke behind UT Arlington for sixth place, and eight back of fourth-place Wichita State (876).
New Mexico State won the team competition with a six-over-par 858 score followed by Colorado State in second at 864 and Northern Colorado in third with an 871. New Mexico State's Brett Walker won the individual title with a six-under-par 207 total.
Gazzolo was the Highlanders top finisher tying for 16th overall with a three-round score of 218 (71-72-75). He was closely followed by Semthiti with a 220 (73-78-69) to tie for 22nd place.
