Solid Third Round Moves Men's Golf Up Three Spots To Conclude UTEP Tournament

Day 1 Story
El Paso, Texas - The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team was in 13th place heading into Saturday's final round of play at the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational, but a solid 289 third-round score moved the Highlanders up three places to 10th out of 15 teams to conclude the tournament.
UCR had all five scores in the 70's on Saturday led by a 70 from Sam Gillis, and identical 72's from Brandon Tsujimoto and Jason Semthiti. The Highlanders three-round total of 876 beat out Western New Mexico by one shot, and was only four behind Northern Colorado in ninth place.
New Mexico State ran away with the tournament, shooting a 28-under-par 836 three-round score. Colorado finished in second place with an 847 followed by San Jose state in third with 853.
UTEP's Martin Simonsen won the individual title with a 12-under-par 204 total, one shot ahead of a three-way tie for second place.
Tsujimoto was UC Riverside's top finisher, tying for 16th place with scores of 69-73-72 (214). David Gazzolo (71-74-75) and Gillis (76-75-70) were one stroke apart at 220 and 221 respectively to tie for 34th and 40th.
Semthiti tied for 64th place with a 227 (79-76-72) while Leven Simon Seay tied for 77th with 73-80-78 (231).
This tournament concludes the fall portion of the Highlanders schedule. UCR will be back in action at the end of January for the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, AZ.
