UCR BMW Of Riverside Gary McCord Golf Challenge Slated For November 2-4

Riverside—The UC Riverside Athletics Department and BMW of Riverside are partnering to raise funds for athletics scholarships this weekend via the UCR BMW of Riverside Gary McCord Golf Challenge. The three-day event begins Saturday, November 2 with the opening Tee-Off Party at the BMW of Riverside dealership show room floor. The party runs from 6-8 pm, and is free of charge to the public with registration required. Click here for more details.
"We are delighted to be the title sponsor of this elite event, and help support our local Division I student-athletes," stated BMW of Riverside general manager Tom Naso.
Along with BMW's title sponsorship, the event is also supported by presenting sponsors C.W. Driver, Anheuser-Busch, and CleanCut Technologies, LLC. Â
The first round of the challenge is Sunday, November 3 at Canyon Crest Country Club. The day begins with a breakfast and clinic hosted by UCR alumnus and PGA Tour Pro Brendan Steele, followed by a 12 pm shotgun start and a post-round reception and dinner at 5:30 pm.
The final round is slated for Monday, November 4 at Victoria Club. Fellow UCR alumnus, PGA Tour Pro and tournament namesake Gary McCord will host a clinic after a 10 am breakfast, with a shotgun start following at 11 am, and a reception and dinner beginning at 4:30 pm.
"We are really excited about the corporate support we are receiving for this event," said Eric Buskirk, Senior Associate Athletics Director. "We worked with BMW of Riverside and Tom Naso as a presenting sponsor last year to bring back the Gary McCord Golf Challenge, and due to last year's success, they stepped up as the title sponsor this year in an effort to take the event to the next level."
"The McCord," which has raised funds for 24 years for UC Riverside Athletics, is hosted by two of UC Riverside's most distinguished former student-athletes: Gary McCord '70, who made a name for himself on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, and as a CBS Golf commentator, author and actor; and Brendan Steele '05, who joined the PGA Tour in 2011 and promptly won the 2011 Valero Open.
"I am pleased to serve as the co-host of the UCR BMW of Riverside Gary McCord Golf Challenge," said McCord. "As a Highlander and proud supporter of the athletics department, I know how imperative scholarships are to compete at the NCAA Division I level. In addition, this event is a great opportunity to have fun and enjoy a round of golf at two of Riverside's finest golf courses. We look forward to seeing everybody there to help us continue growing this great event."

As part of the weekend's activities, Steele and McCord will be conducting clinics on Sunday and Monday respectively.
