New PRs Propel Women's Cross Country To 8th Place At Inter-Regional Jamboree

Sacramento, CA—Raquel Hefflin finished in 19th place overall to pace the UC Riverside Women's Cross Country Team to an eighth place finish out of 19 squads at Sacramento State's Inter-Regional Jamboree at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
Hefflin ran the course in 17:22 followed by Alisha Brown in 32nd place running in 17:35, while Jzsanette Lindstrom placed 39th in 17:42. All three runners set new personal-best 5k times in the process.
Brooke McCandless finished 63rd in a new 5k time of 17:58 while Brianna Simmons placed 88th with a time of 18:23. Valerie Mares ran the course in 19:01 to finish 121st while Maryann Holliday rounded out the squad in 133rd place with a time of 19:19.
California's Kelsey Santisteban won the race by 13 seconds with a time of 16:23.
In the team competition, UCLA won the event with 77 points followed closely by Cal Poly (78) and UC Davis (88).
The Highlanders totaled 228 points to finish ahead of two Pac-12 teams in Washington State and USC, and four Big West Conference foes in Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, and Cal State Northridge.
Next up for UC Riverside is the Highlander Invite at the Ag/Ops Course in Riverside on October 19.
