Irvine—A scoring rampage from UC Riverside sophomore Brittany Crain earned her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The 5-8 guard averaged 30.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals in a 105-74 win at San Jose State (box score/recap) on Friday, and a 90-80 OT win at Santa Clara (box score/recap) on Sunday. She shot 67.9 (19 of 28) percent from the floor, 55.6 percent (5 of 9) from distance and 81.0 (17 of 21) percent at the free throw line for the week.
Crain opened the week with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists against the Spartans while knocking down 10 of 15 floor shots, including a pair of three-pointers.
The 105 points scored by the Highlanders are the most in the program's Division I history, and the most in a win since the team scored 106 against Cal State Stanislaus on December 4, 1993.
Against the Broncos, Crain erupted for a career-high 37 points in the 10-point overtime victory. It represented the highest offensive output in a game since Donna Hammond-Mares scored 38 on January 16, 1982 against Cal State Los Angeles.
She made 16 free throws (in 20 attempts), setting a UCR program best for most made free throws in a game, while tying the mark for attempts. Crain also canned 9 of 13 field goals with three of those coming from long distance.
Crain helped UCR improve its record to 2-2 on the season as she led the team in scoring both games.
The Highlanders now prep for the Great Alaska Shootout scheduled for November 26-27 in Anchorage, Alaska.
