Softball Concludes Amy S. Harrison Classic With 4-1 Win Over San Diego

Riverside—The UC Riverside Softball Team concluded the Amy S. Harrison Classic Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over San Diego.
UC Riverside ended the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning by plating three runs. Natalie Sanchez reached based and advanced to third on two errors by the Torreros right fielder. With two runners on, Marissa Esclante singled to centerfield to drive in the first two Highlanders runs.
UC Riverside scored another run later that inning on a bases-loaded passed ball, making it 3-0.
The Highlanders struck again in the fifth when Esclante advanced to third off a single from Ashley Ercolano, and slid under the tag to score on a wild pitch by USD pitcher Cassidy Coleman.
UC Riverside threatened to score again in the sixth but were unable to add to their lead leaving two on base.
Alyssa Razo went the distance for the Highlanders in the circle keeping San Diego scoreless through six innings. Her shutout opportunity was denied in the top of the seventh when the Torreros went long to put one on the board.
San Diego continued to threaten with another runner on base, but Razo retired the next batter to clinch the win for UC Riverside—their second of the day and third of the weekend.
Razo gave up one run, three hits and struck out two to earn the victory for the Highlanders.
Next up for UCR is the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona starting March 1 in Tucson, AZ.
