Men's Tennis Sweeps Riverside City College, 7-0, For First Victory Of 2013

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team picked up its first win of the 2013 season Thursday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep over Riverside City College at Andulka Park.
"I'm excited to get one under our belt," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "I wanted our guys to really focus on their concentration throughout a match, and I felt they really did that today. They played complete matches, and that's what I've been after."
The Highlanders took the doubles point with wins at numbers one and three. Jimmy Roberts and Simon Peters were victorious at the top spot, 8-3, while Julian Ruffin and Calvin Ngo won at the bottom, 8-0.
The doubles match at number two was left unfinished once UCR had the point in hand.
In singles action, all six points went in favor of the Highlanders for the 7-0 victory.
Roberts defeated Jordan Gobatie 6-1, 6-4 at number one, while Ruffin earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2 over Aliaksandr Pesniak.
Calvin Ngo won easily over Danny Garcia at number three, 6-0, 6-1, while Kevin Griffin defeated Gustavo Carvalho 6-3, 6-3 at #4.
At the bottom two flights, Marcus Vizcarra won 6-3, 6-1 over Ulises Banos, and Kelly Dickson defeated Elliott Moreno 6-2, 6-3.
The Men's Tennis Team remains at home to host UC San Diego next Tuesday, February 12 for a 12:30 pm PT match at Andulka Park.
