
Fresno State Scores Six Runs In Fourth Inning In 7-3 Win Over Softball

Fresno, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team continued play at the Fresno State Kickoff Tournament Friday evening with a 7-3 loss to the host Bulldogs.
The Highlanders (1-1) scored first with a single run in the top of the third inning, but the Bulldogs (2-0) countered with six runs in the bottom of the next frame.
Two errors proved costly for UCR as Fresno State had the bases loaded and scored two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. A wild pitch brought the next runner home, and two singles put three more runners across as the lead grew to 6-1.
The Highlanders got two of those runs back in the next inning, as RBI singles from Dionne Anderson and Ashley Ercolano brought two runners to the plate.
Fresno State made it a 7-3 ballgame with an additional run in the sixth, and UCR failed to move a runner into scoring position in the top of the seventh as the Bulldogs held on for the win.
Ercolano took the loss for the Highlanders, giving up six hits and seven runs, all unearned.
Kayla White went 4-for-4 from the plate with two runs to lead UC Riverside.
Next up for the Highlanders is a Saturday morning contest against Sacramento State at 11:15 am in Fresno.
