Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team is still undefeated following a 2-1 victory over visiting UNLV Sunday evening (Box Score/Video Recap).
The Highlanders went on top early as Aaron Long was on the receiving end of an Eric Gonzalez free kick with three minutes and 18 seconds gone in the first half. His one-timer found its way past UNLV keeper Ryan Harding giving UC Riverside a 1-0 lead.
Hayden Leslie made it 2-0 Highlanders when he headed in Hector Romo's corner kick in the 16th minute of play.
Try as they might, the Highlanders couldn't quite put the Rebels away. KC John made a number of spectacular saves early in the second period, but in the 64th minute Salvador Bernul slotted a pass to Rodrigo Fuentes, who cut the UCR lead in half.
Both teams had scoring opportunities the rest of the way, but neither found the back of the net. John finished with a season-high six saves on the day (Watch Our Interview With KC John From Earlier This Week)
The Highlanders travel to nationally-ranked UCLA this Thursday, September 26 for a 7 pm PT kick off before returning to the Inland Empire on Sunday, September 29 for their final non-conference match of the season against Incarnate Word (4 pm).
