#11 UCLA Hands Men's Soccer First Loss Of 2013 Season, 3-0
9/26/2013 8:58:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Los Angeles—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team had hopes of running its unbeaten streak to eight straight Thursday evening, while beating UCLA for the first time in its Division I history, but it was the Bruins who jumped on top early and picked up the 3-0 victory (Box Score).
A UCR foul in their box with 19:06 gone in the first set up a UCLA penalty kick, and Leo Stoltz converted for his fifth goal of the season, putting the Bruins up, 1-0.
Victor Munoz made it 2-0 UCLA with just 44 seconds to go before the half as he chipped Gage Zerboni's through ball into the back of the Highlanders' net.
The Bruins scored the final goal of the match with just 3:59 ticked off the clock in the second half thanks to Jordan Vale's header.
The Highlanders had their chances uncorking 10 shots on the day including five on goal, but UCLA keeper Earl Edwards Jr. was able to stop every one en route to his fourth shutout of the season.
The Highlanders return home Sunday for their final non-conference match of the season before the start of Big West play. Incarnate Word is the opponent, and kick off is slated for 4 pm PT.
