Box Score - Idaho State 3, UC Riverside 0
Albuquerque, New Mexico - The UC Riverside Volleyball Team concluded the Sheraton Airport Lobo Classic Saturday morning with a 3-0 loss to Idaho State by the scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-17.
Cristina Maietta led the Highlanders (0-6) with nine kills while Ashley Cox added eight and Fabiana Rosas had seven. Desiree Nielson led the Bengals (4-3) with 10 kills.
It was a tight set early in the first frame with seven ties scores through 9-9. Idaho State then used a 3-0 run as a catalyst for an 8-1 rally that increased the advantage to 17-10. A Bri Holmes kill stopped the momentum, but the Bengals cruised to their 25-16 win.
The second set also started as a close one until ISU turned a 5-4 deficit into a 9-5 lead. UCR fell behind and was still down seven, 19-12, before scoring seven of the next 11 points to cut the gap to four, 23-19, capped off by a Kecia Ambers kill and a Bengals error. The UCR defense needed a stop, but could not prevent kills by Nielson and Tressa Lyman as Idaho State held on for the 25-19 win.
After three ties scores and three lead changes early in the third set, the Highlanders found themselves down just two, 15-13, midway through. ISU scored four straight at that point, however, opening up a 19-13 lead as they went on for the 25-17 victory.
UC Riverside now returns to the Golden State for three games in the Bankers Classic hosted by the University of Pacific on September 13-14 in Stockton, CA.
