1/25/2014 3:59:00 PM | Men's Tennis
Tucson, AZ - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team won the doubles point Saturday against Northern Arizona, but failed to split in the singles matches falling 4-3 to the Lumberjacks in a neutral-site contest.
UCR's #1 doubles duo of Jack Felich and Julian Ruffin defeated their opponents, 6-4, and Marcus Vizcarra and Calvin Ngo won at #2 doubles, 6-0, securing the Highlanders the first point of the match.
In singles action, Ruffin earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #3, and Cooper Bridge won 6-2, 5-6, 10-7 at #4. Northern Arizona won in the four other matches, however, taking the contest with a 4-3 victory.
"It was a disappointing showing today," Head Men's Tennis Coach Tim Downey stated. "We all needed to play with a little more fire and focus.
"I was excited we took the doubles point; it is huge for momentum. Julian Ruffin and Cooper Bridge provided solid performances.
"NAU played well today and we had our chances but we need to capitalize on our opportunities. I know these guys have not come close to reaching their potential. We'll get there."
The Highlanders remain in Tucson to play Arizona on Sunday at 10 am PT.
