Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team blanked Long Beach State 1-0 Sunday afternoon helping the Highlanders to finish with a winning record for the first time since the 2006 season. The win also allowed UCR to leapfrog UC Davis to finish the year in fifth place in the Big West Conference.
There were 823 fans in attendance to witness the victory, setting a program record for attendance in a single match as well as average attendance for a season.
Amanda Apelian gave the Highlanders the only score they would need in the 21st minute. Briana Thomasson chipped the ball to Tyler Cunningham in the left side of the LBSU 18, and Cunningham tapped it back across the box where Apelian waited to pound home her third score of the season.
The UC Riverside defense did the rest as Elizabeth Silas and the Highlanders kept the back of their net clean for the seventh time this season.
