Softball Bangs Out Six Hits But Falls 5-0 At Fresno State

Fresno, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team continued action at the Fresno State Kick Off Friday evening with a 5-0 loss to the host Bulldogs. Box Score.
Fresno State struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning--all with two outs. Stesha Brazil's two-out double plated two runners, one who reached on a single, and another on a walk. A single by Paige Gumz then brought Brazil home to put FSU up, 3-0.
The Highlanders had an opportunity to put some runs on the board in the fourth, but fell just short. A single, an error, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for UCR with only one out, but consecutive flyouts ended the inning and the threat.
UC Riverside stranded two more runners on base in the sixth following singles from Karina Romero and Ashley Ercolano.
Fresno State added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, opening up a 5-0 advantage.
The Highlanders put together another rally, loading the bases in the seventh. With one out, Natalie Sanchez singled, and advanced to third following a Marissa Escalante double. Following the second out, Dionne Anderson was walked to put runners on all three bases.
Unfortunately, UCR's comeback fell just shy, as an infield popup ended the game.
The Highlanders now prepare for a Saturday, February 15 game against Sacramento State at 2 pm PT in Fresno, CA.
