Softball Uses Four-Run Fourth To Defeat Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-2

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team rallied back from a 1-0 deficit Wednesday in the first game of its doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson, using a four-run fourth inning to earn a 6-2 victory at Amy S. Harrison Field. Box Score.
UCR starting pitcher Alyssa Razo retired the first four batters in order, but the fifth, Cindy Zamudio, lifted a shot over the left field fence to put FDU on top, 1-0.
The Highlanders got the equalizer in the third inning tying the score at 1-1. Nicolette Lujan led off with a single, advanced to second following a Karina Romero single, and went to third after Haley Harris lined out to left field. The FDU third baseman, however, threw back to first to try and hold Romero from advancing, but the throw was wide allowing Lujan to come home for the unearned run.
The next inning, the Highlanders used a two-out rally to put four on the board to go up 5-1. With runners at first and second with two outs, Dionne Anderson doubled to right center, clearing the bases and driving in both runners.
Romero then singled to drive Anderson home from second, and Harris followed with a single to send Romero home.
In the fifth, UC Riverside had the bases loaded with no outs thanks to an error, walk, and single. With one out, Taylor Wright hit a sac fly to left that scored the runner from third, making it a 6-1 ball game.
Meanwhile, Razo subdued the Knights bats, giving up two more hits through the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh, Ashley Ercolano took to the circle for UCR, but gave up back to back singles. Fairleigh Dickinson would eventually plate one run, but the Highlanders got out of the inning with only that run scoring, earning the 6-2 win.
