Men's Tennis Defeats Villanova, 6-1, For First Victory Of Season

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team won its first match of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Villanova, 6-1.
"Finally we have our first victory," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "It was a great match and huge confidence booster for us to get through this challenge.
"The guys came out with a very positive focus. Now, it's up to us to maintain that focus and carry this into all our matches."
The Highlanders took the doubles point with wins at numbers one and three. UCR's number one duo of Cooper Bridge and Michael Carella defeated their opponent, 8-5, while Luis Gastao and Sean Robles won 8-6 at #3.
In singles, UC Riverside was strong winning five of the six matches.
Gastao defeated Thomas O'Brien at number one, 5-7, 1-0 ret., while Bridge won 6-4, 7-5 at #2 over Mark Miller.
Jack Felich rallied for a 6-2, 2-6 (10-2) win at number three against Kelly Donaldson while Sean Yun took a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number four over Luis Mirando, and Marcus Vizcarra won 7-5, 6-3 at #5 against Mike Rosengren.
UC Riverside now travels to No. 5 USC on Sunday, March 9 for a 4 pm PT match in Los Angeles, CA.
