Women's Soccer Hangs Tough With #6 Texas Tech, But Falls 3-2

Lubbock, TX—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team hung tough with the sixth rank team in the nation, Texas Tech, Sunday, but the Red Raiders scored with 8:43 remaining to escape with a 3-2 victory.
Brianna Thomasson got the Highlanders (5-3-2) started in the eighth minute with her first goal of the season.
Texas Tech's (10-1-0) Janine Beckie netted her seventh score of the year with 30:55 gone off the clock to tie the score, and the teams headed into the locker room tied at one.
A Caity Heap score in the 66th minute gave the Red Raiders a one goal advantage, but it was short-lived as 43 seconds later, Alina Cheatham slotted a Tyler Cunningham pass into the back of the net to knot things up again.
It was Beckie who gave Texas Tech its final margin of victory with her second goal of the evening with just 8:43 to go in regulation.
The Highlanders pushed for the equalizer, and had their best opportunity with 4:01 remaining when Alexa Bustamante's header bounced off the cross bar, but the Red Raiders kept UCR in check the rest of the way to hold on for the win.
UC Riverside begins Big West Conference play this weekend on the road at UC Davis on Thursday, October 2 at 4 pm PT, and at Hawai'i on Sunday, October 5 at 8 pm.
