Facchini 1st, Griffith 2nd, As Women's Golf Wins Second Title Of Season

Arroyo Grande, CA—UC Riverside's Hannah Facchini (141, -3) shot a final round two under par 70 to claim the individual title, while leading the Highlander Women's Golf Team to their second championship in just three events this year, the Cal Poly Lady Mustang Intercollegiate title.

UCR's Paris Griffith (147, +3) also had a strong final round (75), placing her in a tie for second. Facchini and Griffith's 1-2 finish, along with Freshman Jakeishya Le's (151, +3, T7) third top-10 in as many events, proved to be too much for the 12 team field.

The Highlanders finished 15 strokes ahead of second place host Cal Poly, and 16 ahead of last year's winner Santa Clara, who finished third. (view PDF of results).

Facchini had back-to-back under par rounds (71,70) for the first time in her career, as well as eight birdies, on the way to her second individual title.

As a team, the Highlanders entered the day in third place, just two shots off the pace. UCR made final round adjustments that helped shave six shots off its opening round total (300, 294), while the Highlander's closest four competitors each saw their final round scores increase by 11 shots or more.

Coach Mary Ritchie credited the round over round improvement to conservative play on the challenging front nine, as well as the Par 5,18th hole, where the green is reachable in two, but guarded by a water hazard.

UC Riverside's Haley Wian improved her round one score by nine strokes (82-73, +11) to finish tied for 20th, followed by Tina Nagai (163, T42), and Yuri Ahn (178, T64).

In addition to the Highlanders, the Big West was also represented by host Cal Poly (2nd) and CSUN (T4).

UCR Women's Golf Team will hit the links again Sunday, November 1, against CSU Bakersfield at the Canyon Crest Country Club.
