Box Score Fresno- The UC Riverside Softball team moved to 6-2 on the season after winning a four-hour, 13 inning battle against Sacramento State Saturday night, 7-6.
Taylor Misfeldt took the mound first for the Highlanders, followed by Kaylynn Pierce and Alyssa Razo. Chelsea Ponce was the final pitcher for the Highlanders throwing seven innings and striking out five batters. She now recorded 34 strikeouts over a total 36 innings pitched.
Down 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Highlanders fought back, putting three runs across the plate in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game and force extra innings. During international tie-breaker UCR matched Sac. State's scoring efforts in the 8th, 10th, and 12th inning before making a defensive stop in the 13th and capitalizing with an RBI by Madeline Richard that put Haley Harris across the plate for the winning run.
The Highlanders will take on Sacramento State and California Sunday, Feb. 15 at 9 am PT and 1:30 pm PT, respectively.
