Highlander Softball 2-0 After Day One At The Wildcat Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Tuscon, AZ- The UC Riverside Softball team extended its win-streak to eight games after defeating Colorado State and Bryant Friday on the first day of the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Arizona. The Highlanders started the day topping Colorado State, 7-1 and finished with a victory over Bryant, 7-2.

UCR is 14-4 through its first 18 games of the season. It is the best start for the program since 2006 when the Highlanders also registered 14 wins through 18 games.

It was all about offense for the Highlanders on the first day of the Wildcat Invitational as UCR recorded a total 23 hits in 14 innings. During the Highlanders' game against Colorado State, Rebecca Faulkner recorded her third home run of the year and notching one in back-to-back games after blasting a home run over left field in a 8-0 victory over St. John's on Wednesday (recap).

The Highlanders have garnered 10 or more hits in the last five games, including their season-high, 14.

Pitching six innings against Colorado State and recording her second victory for the Highlanders was Tayler Misfeldt, striking out five batters. Marcilena Valenzuela made her third appearance in game two of the day, also earning her second win and striking out three.

The Highlanders are back in action for day two of the Wildcat Invitational Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3 pm, taking on the host team Arizona.
