Box Score 2 Riverside- The UC Riverside Softball Team moves to 23-6 on the season after hosting Weber State Wednesday afternoon in a two game series. A pitching duel went in the Highlanders' favor with a 2-0 victory in game one before falling to the Wildcats in game two 8-0 in six innings.
With 23 wins so far this year, the Highlanders have tied with last season's win total and are just two away from tying the program's Division I-era single-season record.
Chelsea Ponce took to the mound in game one, throwing all seven innings in UCR's shutout, striking out seven, and giving up only five hits. Bailey Seek threw for the Wildcats, striking out two and giving up four hits to the Highlanders.
Batting in the only runs of the game were Haley Harris and Rebecca Faulkner in the first inning. Harris nailed a shot to left field to bring in Karina Romero and on the next play Faulkner doubled to right center to bring in Harris.
In game two the Highlanders threw four pitchers, giving up 13 hits. In a quick turn around the Wildcats struck first, putting up three runs on the board in the top of the first. Harris was the only Highlander to record a hit in both games today. She has recorded hits in nine of the last 11 games.
The Highlanders are back in action Friday, March 20 as they travel to Los Angeles for the LMU Invitational.
