Davis, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team dropped a 13-1 decision at UC Davis Sunday afternoon, as the Aggies scored seven runs in the fifth to break open a tight game.
Keaton Leach (0-2) got the start for the Highlanders and allowed single runs in the third and fourth as UC Riverside fell behind, 2-0. The Highlanders put runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth off of Raul Jacobson (3-0) as well, but failed to score.
The Aggies (17-7-1, 3-0) broke the game open in their half of the fifth thanks in part to a pair of UCR errors. They sent 11 batters to the plate, and by the time the dust settled it was 9-0 UC Davis.
UCD added another run in the bottom of the sixth, before the Highlanders (10-18, 0-3) finally got on the board in the top of the seventh. Robby Witt's double to left scored Joe Chavez, who opened the inning with a single.
UC Davis plated three more runs after the seventh inning stretch, and Matt Blais pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit to close out the win.
The Highlanders remain on the road this week traveling to CSU Bakersfield Tuesday. They then return to the Inland Empire over the weekend for a three-game series vs. UC Irvine.
