Men's Golf Leads The Pack After Day One At The Big West Championship

San Luis Obispo - The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team fired a 286 score in the first round of the Big West Conference Championship Sunday to place first out of nine teams with two rounds remaining. Complete Results. View Photo Gallery.

After one round of competition last season the Highlanders were ranked ninth out of nine teams.

The Highlanders are two strokes ahead of second place UC Davis and three ahead of Cal Poly and UC Irvine who are tied for third.

Individually for UCR, David Gazzolo is leading the field of 45 individuals, firing a three-under par 67. He is one stroke ahead of second place Mike Brockington out of UC Davis. Matt Lutz is tied for fifth with 72 while Anthony Bonales shot 73 to tie for 11th. Rounding out the Highlanders in the top-20 was Sam Gillis with a 74 in a tie for 18th.

Final player for the blue and golf, Andre Vu, is tied for 31th with a 77.

The second round of the Big West Conference Championship gets underway Monday morning with tee times at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
