Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team struggled to find its offense for the second straight game, Saturday, as Cal State Fullerton shut out the Highlanders 19-0. It was the second consecutive shutout for the Titans who topped UCR on Friday night by a score of 11-0.
Justin Garza (4-3) held the Highlanders in check through six innings allowing three hits while walking two and striking out five. By the time he was lifted for a trio of relievers, Garza and the Titans held an 11-0 lead scoring one run in the first, three in the third and seven in the fourth.
Kevin Sprague (3-5) allowed eight of those runs over 3.2 innings, and none of UC Riverside subsequent four relief pitchers emerged unscathed combining to allow 11 more runs over the final five plus innings.
Fullerton's 19 runs are the most the Highlanders have allowed in a game this season, and the back-to-back shutouts are the first in UC Riverside's Division I history.
The Highlanders and Titans finish their three-game series on Sunday beginning at 1 pm PT.
