Riverside—Alexa Bustamante scored a pair of goals Sunday afternoon as the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team improved to 2-2 on the season with a 4-2 victory over visiting Southern Utah (

The Highlanders dominated the first period outshooting the Thunderbirds 10-1. Bustamante put UCR on top with just 4:28 gone in the match as she headed a Blanca Barrio corner kick past the outstretched arms of Southern Utah's goalkeeper.
Twenty-five minutes later, Danielle Lopez put the Highlanders up two when she one-timed an Alina Cheatham cross off the cross bar and over the goal line.
A Thunderbirds penalty in the UCR defensive 18 gave the Highlanders a penalty kick just three minutes into the second half, and Tyler Cunningham converted for her second score of the season to make it 3-0 UC Riverside.
Southern Utah ended the shutout in the 52nd minute when they popped the ball loose in the UCR half of the field and Robin Paige collected it with nobody to beat bu Highlanders goalkeeper Elizabeth Silas.
Bustamante scored her second goal of the day with 23:02 remaining on a PK after another Thunderbirds penalty in the UCR box.
Southern Utah's Kelsee Bone ended the scoring in the 68th minute of play as she stole the ball in UC Riverside's end and scored from two steps inside the penalty box.
The Highlanders remain at home next weekend as they host Houston Baptist on Friday, September 4 beginning at 7 pm PT.
