Men's Soccer Remains Perfect At Home With 3-0 Victory Over San jose State
9/25/2015 11:21:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team remained undefeated at home as they shutout San Jose State Friday evening, 3-0.
The Highlanders (4-4-1) and Spartans (2-5-0) played in front of the fifth largest crowd in program history as 1,018 UCR faithful cheered from the sidelines. The crowd didn't have to wait long for the Highlanders to reward their enthusiasm as Kouri Nagi found Michael Salazar streaking down the left side line with just under 14 minutes off the clock. Salazar was left alone, one-on-one against San Jose State's keeper, beating him to the far post with his fourth goal of the season.
That goal tied Salazar with Norberto Ochoa for the team scoring lead, but just under 12 minutes later, Ochoa netted his fifth goal of the year off of an Eric Gonzalez pass.
It remained a 2-0 UC Riverside lead until the 75th minute when Ochoa uncorked a shot from the right side of the Spartans goal. Emmanuel Espinoza made the save, but Salazar was there for the put-back and the final 3-0 margin of victory.
The Highlanders are off for the rest of the weekend, but return to action on Thursday, October 1 as they host UC Davis at 7 pm in the first conference match of the year for both clubs.
