Softball Rounds Out Coaching Staff With Terry Schweikert

Riverside—UC Riverside Head Softball Coach Nikki Palmer announced that former Texas A&M Director of Softball Operations Terry Schweikert has joined the UC Riverside Softball coaching staff.

Schweikert was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Aggies' softball program, including administrative duties involving team travel, budgeting, marketing and promotions, on-campus recruiting and alumni relations.

She was also an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton from 2001-2005, when the Titans produced two first-team All-Americans, three pro players and one Olympian—former UCR pitching coach Jodie Cox.

"I want to thank Athletics Director Tamica Smith Jones and Head Coach Nikki Palmer for the opportunity to join the UCR family," said Schweikert. "I am excited to build upon the momentum that Linda, Jodie, their staff and the amazing student-athletes have created. This is a tremendous area for softball, and an unbelievable opportunity for student-athletes to succeed on and off the field."

Schweikert spent five years coaching in the Big 12 with her alma mater, the University of Missouri (96-97), and also at Nebraska (98-01). As a player, she was a two-year captain at Mizzou, garnering All-Midwest Region honors, as well as the 1983-84 Player of the Year award, before graduating with a bachelor's degree in physical education.

"I'm glad that we were able to add Terry to the staff," said Palmer. "Having her knowledge of the game and coaching experience in our dugout greatly enhances the entire program."

Coach Schweikert's primary responsibilities will be hitting, and defense. The Highlanders brought in former All-American Cheridan Hawkins as a pitching coach last month, and get the fall season started this Saturday against Palomar at 10 am at Amy S. Harrison field. Admission is free.
