Riverside—Faith Makau won the 5th Annual Highlander Invitational 5k in a new personal-best time of 17:06.1. Teammate Weslie Totten was third and Women's team also finished third. (Womens 5K Results)
The Men's team matched the Women's third place result, led by Cesar Solis in third and Solomon Demeku-Ousman in fourth.
Saturday's win by Makau was also a successful defense of her 2015 title in the Highlander Invitational, which is the final tune-up before the conference championship in two weeks.
Makau was the top finisher on the squad for the first time this season with the win, Totten had earned team honors in each of the previous three races.
Coming into to the race, the women's team looked to make it three straight wins for the blue and gold, but San Diego State (46 pts) placed five runners in the top-15 to claim the team crown.
Big West foe Cal State Fullerton (54 pts) came in second ahead of UC Riverside (79 pts) in third. San Diego State's Christine King finished second.

In his last race as a Highlander on the ag/Ops Course, Solis shaved over 40 seconds off his previous personal-best time in the 6k with an 18:05.1 showing Saturday. His previous top time of 18:46.9 was established back in 2012, in the inaugural Highlander Invitational. (Men's 6K Results)
Demeku-Ousman was not to be left out of the UCR personal-best party, as he kicked his way to an 18:05.98 finish, one second better than his previous mark set in last year's race.
The Highlanders (69 pts) improved on last season's sixth place finish, with a third place result in the 6k. UC Irvine (30) claimed the title ahead of Cal State Fullerton (51) in second. Isaiah Thompson won the individual title for the Anteaters, who placed five runners inside the top-10. The Titans' Sam Pimentel was runner-up.
