Riverside—The UC Riverside Volleyball team got 13 kills from Brooke Callahan, and six aces as well as a 12 kill-12 dig double-double from Mickayla Sherman on a night when Cristina Maietta had 13 digs and Maddie Hubbell logged 12 in a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Fullerton. 

The teams split the opening set's first 20 points, and were also tied at 12 apiece. UCR was able to jump out to a one point lead at 13-12, and never relinquished that lead winning the first set, 25-18.

Callahan led the Highlanders with seven first set kills on 10 swings, while Chelsea Doyle finished the opening frame with 13 assists. The Highlanders had 16 kills as a team, doubling the Titans, who tallied eight. The blue and gold was stout on defense, coming up with 23 digs and not allowing a Titan no run longer than three.
 
Following the first set victory, UCR and Fullerton again were knotted at five a piece, when the home side jumped out to an 11-6 lead behind big time swings from Sherman, who led the squad with five kills in the second set, and Doyle, who added 12 assists in the frame to get to 25 at the break.

The Highlanders closed out the second frame by a decisive score of 25-14.

Hubbell led the team with seven digs in the middle set, while the Highlanders front line came up with four blocks to stifle Fullerton's offense.
 
With momentum on the Highlander's side, the Titans came out strong to get off to an early four point lead, 10-6. After a timeout, the Highlanders were able to reel off ten straight to gain control of the set at 16-10. The Titans got a score to make 16-11, before the UCR took three out of four points to force Fullerton to call for time.

The Highlanders maintained a seven-point advantage en route to a 25-18 third set victory, and earn their first sweep of the 2016 conference campaign. Their last sweep in Big West play was on November 14, 2015 at home versus UC Santa Barbara. The previous sweep took place a month prior also at home—against Cal State Fullerton.

Doyle led both teams with 33 assists while Sherman posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs only trailing the team leader, Callahan, by 1. Meg Graham added eight kills and assisted on six blocks, while Cristina Maietta chipped a team-high 13 digs in the win.

Sherman's six aces place her in a tie for fourth on UCR's all-time single match records list, while Callahan's .647 (13-2-17) hitting percentage puts her in a tie for 10th all-time.

Hubbell finished with 12 digs in stabilizing a defense that held the opponents to an .020 hitting percentage for the match.

The UC Riverside Volleyball Team will be back in action on Tuesday, November 8 in the SRC Arena against UC Davis at 7 pm.
