Portland, OR--Senior pitcher Tyler Musgraves gave the Highlanders a pick-me-up Sunday, tossing six innings of one-hit baseball, and Thomas Walker and Colby Schultz each drove in a pair of runs as the Highlanders beat Portland in their series-finale, 4-1.
UCR put two on the board in the top of the third as Yeager Taylor drew a one-out walk and Schultz drilled an 0-0 pitch over the right field wall putting the Highlanders up 2-0.
Musgraves (2-0) didn't give up a base hit until the fourth, and left after six innings of work still leading by two.
UC Riverside (5-7) relief pitcher Cameron Haskell gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Ryan Lillie got the Highlanders out of the inning, and Alex Fagalde tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth for his first save of the season.
Walker tacked on some insurance runs for the Highlanders in the top of the ninth, blasting his second home run of the series to left, scoring Mark Contreras who led off the inning with a walk.
Portland's Kevin Baker (0-20 took the loss, as the Pilots fell to 8-4 on the year.
UC Riverside returns home this week for games against UNLV on Tuesday (6 pm PT) and Wednesday (3 pm) before traveling to Bakersfield for a three-game series with the Road Runners.
