Baseball Can't Complete Sweep As Long Beach State Wins, 10-7

Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team has its sights set on a three-game conference sweep of #17 Long Beach State Sunday afternoon, but the Dirtbags plate eight runs in the top of the fourth en route to a 10-7 victory.

The Highlanders (17-20, 5-4)  took the first two games of the series against nationally-ranked LBSU in dramatic fashion, winning via the walk off on both nights—4-3 Friday evening, and 14-13 Saturday.

They couldn't pull off the hat trick Sunday though, as the Dirtbags sent 12 men to the plate in the top of the fourth banging out six hits and scoring eight runs off of three different UC Riverside pitchers. That turned a 3-2 Highlanders lead into a seven-run Long Beach State (22-16, 6-6) advantage.

UC Riverside scored a single run in their half of the fourth, and three in the bottom of the ninth, but the deficit proved too great to overcome.

Tanner Brown (5-3) picked up the win for the Dirtbags, going six innings while scattering nine hits and allowing four runs. Cameron Haskell (0-2) took the loss in his first start of the season for UC Riverside.

The Highlanders remain at home this week, hosting San Diego for a 6 pm PT first pitch Tuesday, April 26.
