Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning Tuesday evening, scoring six runs en route to an 8-3 victory over visiting San Diego State.
Vince Fernandez and Cameron Haskell each had three hits on the evening. One of Fernandez base knocks was a solo homer to right in the second inning—his team-leading seventh home run of the season and fourth in five games.
Devin Mckesson (1-0) earned the first win of his UC Riverside (22-27) career allowing just three hits in four innings. Both of the runs he gave up were unearned.
Hazahel Quijada tossed two innings of two-hit relief, giving up one unearned run to the Aztecs (17-35), while Matt Ellis, Alex Fagalde and Ryan Liilie combined to allow two hits over the final three innings.
The Highlanders host Cal Poly this weekend for a three-game Big West Conference series—the final three home games of the season for UC Riverside.
