Fullerton—The UC Riverside Baseball Team dropped a 9-2 decision to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon as the Titans completed a three-game sweep of the Highlanders. The loss dropped UC Riverside (20-24, 7-8) five games behind the front-running Titans (30-16, 12-3) in the Big West Conference.
Cal State Fullerton connected on three home runs on the day—two off the bat of Dalton Blazer and one from Timmy Richards. Blazer hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, and a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth, while Richards went deep with a three-run shot to left center in the bottom of the second.
The Highlanders plated their first run of the game in the top of the third on a Mark Contreras sac fly, but by then they trailed 6-1. Colby Schultz provided UCR with its second and final run of the game with a solo shot in the top of the sixth.
Colton Eastman (7-2) scattered seven hits over six innings, striking out nine without walking a batter. The Titans then turned the game over to a trio of relievers—Blake Quinn, Chad Hockin and Maxwell Gibbs—each of whom tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
Angel Landazuri (4-4) took the loss for UC Riverside.
The Highlanders return to The Plex, Tuesday, for a 6 pm PT first pitch against San Diego, before traveling to Hawai'i for a three-game weekend series with the Rainbow Warriors.
