San Francisco, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team took a 1-0 lead late into the second half Sunday afternoon, but two late San Francisco scores sent the Highlanders to a 2-1 defeat.
Tayler Dragoo scored the first goal of her career with just 7:34 gone in the first when the Dons misplayed a ball in their defensive end. She capitalized on the miscue beating the keeper to put the Highlanders (0-1-1) up 1-0.
It remained a 1-0 match until 15:44 to go when Sonja Giraud took a pass from the end line and slotted it past UCR goalie Alanna Guzman to tie the score. Miciah Madison and Allison Arriola were credited with assists on the play.
It didn't take long for San Francisco (2-0-0) to take the lead as one minute and 36 seconds later, Giraud found Amanda Whittle, who beat the UC Riverside defense to the far post.
The Highlanders return to campus this week for the start of a three-match home stand: Friday, August 26 against South Dakota at 8:30 pm, Sunday, August 28 against North Dakota State at 7 pm, and Friday, September 3 against Southern Utah at 7 pm.
