Women's Soccer Blanks Houston, 3-0, For Second Straight Shutout Victory

Houston, TX—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team knocked the Houston Cougars from the ranks of the unbeaten Friday evening, as the Highlanders posted their second straight 3-0 shutout, and improved to 3-2-3 on the season.

UCR dominated the first half of play outshooting the Cougars (3-1-1) 10-3 in the first half, but none of the Highlanders shots found the back of the net. All that changed after the intermission, though, as UC Riverside struck gold on each of their first three second-half shots.

Kyra Taylor (Elk Grove, CA) broke the tie in the 53rd minute of play, beating the Houston keeper after collecting a Sammy Arellano (San Ysidro, CA) corner kick.

It took less than a minute for the Highlanders to convert on another corner kick, as Arellano found Tayler Dragoo (La Habra, CA) in the middle of the Cougars defensive 18 for her third goal of the season.

Amanda Apelian (Westlake Village, CA) made it a 3-0 match in the 66th minute, redirecting a Hannah Wyatt (Oceanside, CA) pass for her first score of the year.

Alanna Guzman (Corona, CA) recorded seven saves in the victory in collecting her third shutout of the season.

The Highlanders remain on the road this weekend traveling to #11 Texas A&M Sunday for a 4 pm PT kick off against the Aggies.
