Bakersfield Nets Golden Goal In Double OT For 3-2 Win Over Women's Soccer

Box Score Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team had its opportunities Sunday evening, but it was CSU Bakersfield who netted the golden goal in double overtime, to walk away with a 3-2 victory.

Tatum Lockett (Diamond Bar, CA) provided all of the scoring in the first half, as she one-timed a Tayler Dragoo (La Habra, CA) free kick into the upper left hand corner of the 'Runners goal. The Highlanders (3-5-3) controlled the pace for much of the period, but only outshot Bakersfield by a 4-2 margin.

With 4:33 gone in the second, the Roadrunners (4-7-1) tied the score as Jordin Bartel converted Sophie Freeman's cross into her second goal of the season. It was deja vu time a mere 50 seconds later as Bakersfield went up 2-1 on a nearly identical play with Freeman once again finding Bartel in the middle of UC Riverside's defensive 18.

In the 57th minute of play, Dragoo lined up for a free kick some 40-yards away from the CSUB goal. Possessing one of the strongest legs in the nation, the senior drilled the ball towards the goal, and it sailed over the arms of the 'Runners keeper to tie the score.

It remained tied at the end of regulation and through the first overtime period, but just when it looked like the game would end in a draw, Bakersfield struck. Haley Vincente drive left to right across the top of the Highlanders box, and found Freeman on the right side. Freeman slotted the ball to Aminah Settles in front of the goal, and the Roadrunners poured onto the field as the ball crossed the goal line.

The Highlanders open Big West play this week beginning with a Friday, September 30 match at Cal State Fullerton. Kick off is scheduled for 7 pm PT.
