Riverside—Three-time Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year Haley Wian fired a four-under par career-best 68 in the second round to lead the Highlanders back into contention heading into tomorrow's final round in the Battle at the Rock at Oak Quarry Golf Club. (

Wian improved her first round score (85) by 17 strokes in the afternoon 18. The senior from Huntington Beach, shot 34 on each side, including birdies on four of six holes on her second nine. Her 68 ranks third on the all-time low round records list (
single-round records). Her previous low-round was in last year's Battle at the Rock, a two-under par 70.
The Highlanders shot a team 325 in the first round, which placed them 14th overall. In the second round they combined for the best team round of the tournament, an ever par 288–37 shots better than their opening round. They now sit in a tie for fourth.
Newcomer Hailey White (Danville, CA) finds herself inside the top-10 after two rounds of play–tied for eighth at +6 for the championship.
The team lead belongs to 2016 Big West Championship host Hawai'i at +23, followed by Cal Poly in second at +28, and Northern Arizona at +36 in third.
NAU's Sofia Anokhina holds the overnight lead an even par. She is one of three players in the field to shoot under par Monday. Cal State Fullerton's Martina Edberg and Pauline Walker along with Cal Poly's Desiree Gillaspy, are all tied for second at +2.
