Box Score Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team broke out the bats Monday evening, establishing season highs with 16 hits and 14 runs in a 14-6 victory over visiting Holy Cross. It is the most runs the Highlanders have scored in a game since a 25-0 win over North Dakota on March 15, 2015.
Cody Sporrer struck the biggest blow of the night, launching a grand slam over the left center field wall in the bottom of the fifth.
Alex Fagalde (2-0) picked up the win in his first start of the season for the Highlanders. Prior to Monday, he logged 11.2 scoreless innings allowing just six hits and striking out a dozen. Fagalde wasn't quite as effective against the Crusaders giving up six hits and four runs in 5.1 innings of work.
By the time Head Coach Troy Percival brought Ricky Delgado in from the bullpen, though, the UC Riverside offense had staked the team to a seven-run lead, 11-4.
Eight of the Highlanders nine starters recorded hits on the evening, and seven members of the team drove in runs led by Sporrer's four, and Yeager Taylor's three.
The Highlanders and Crusaders finish their four-game series on Tuesday, March 7 beginning at 6 pm PT.
