Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside center fielder Mark Contreras is the Conference Field Player of the Week for games played from April 24-30.

The senior batted .556 for the week (10 for 18), and extended his hitting streak to 17 straight to help the Highlanders post a 3-1 record, including a series win over UC Santa Barbara.  Five of those 10 hits went for extra bases, as the outfielder registered a 1.056 slugging percentage over the four games.
 
In a 7-4 win at San Diego State on Tuesday, Contreras tied an NCAA single-game record with three triples. He finished 5-for-5 with a double, two runs and three RBI's, including the game-winner. In addition, his 12 total bases represented the second most in UCR single-game history.
 
Contreras was 5-for-13 with three walks in the UC Santa Barbara series as the Highlanders took two out of three games.  In game two, he drove in his second game-winning run of the week, and finished 3-for-4 with three RBI's in a 9-5 win. He knocked in another run in Sunday's 6-5 loss.
