Men's Basketball Adds Byron Rimm II To Coaching Staff

Riverside—UC Riverside Head Men's Basketball Coach Dennis Cutts announced today the hiring or Byron Rimm II as the team's assistant coach. Rimm joins Associate Head Coach Justin Bell, Assistant Coach Keith Wilkinson, Director of Basketball Operations Nico Romero and Assistant Director of Basketball Operations Keaton Van Dusen in rounding out the staff.

"We are excited about the addition of Byron to our program," said Cutts. "He is a great compliment in terms of recruiting networks here in California, and also nationally. His experience as a head coach at this level provides an additional positive layer to our staff, and great resource for our players."

"I am extremely excited to Join Dennis Cutts and his staff at UC Riverside," said Rimm. "Its an honor to be back in California, and in The Inland Empire. I believe Coach Cutts and his staff have some of the same core values on and off the court that will help my transition. Furthermore, I am looking forward to being a part of the Highlanders Family, and getting this team ready for the season."

Rimm is best known to college basketball fans as the head coach at Prairie View A&M from 2005-16. In 2013 Rimm led the Panthers to the SWAC Championship game for the first time since 1998 and then brought them back to the finals in 2014.
 
Rimm's teams also excelled in the classroom. In 2014 Prairie View A&M held the highest APR ranking among SWAC teams, and its score was the best in program history.

Last season, Rimm served as the director of basketball operations at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where he handled the majority of administrative tasks for the program, including team travel, community service and the Islanders Summer Basketball Camps.
 
Rimm played at Ventura College and Cal State, Los Angeles before beginning his coaching career at Pasadena City College. He also had stints at Chaffey Community College and Cal State San Bernardino before becoming the head women's basketball coach at Texas College. Rimm's final stop before heading to Prairie View was as the head coach of Jarvis Christian.
 
Rimm graduated from Cal State Los Angeles in 1999 and earned his master's degree from American InterContinental University in 2005.
