Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team looked headed to overtime Sunday evening, but a controversial yellow card reversal and an own goal in the final few minutes handed the Highlanders their first loss of the season in a 1-0 loss to Idaho.
The Vandals' #19 Morgan Crosby was issued yellow cards with 7:55 and 3:06 remaining in the second half, but the officials failed to remove her from the game. At the conclusion of the match, the officials changed the second yellow card to #14 Kaysie Bruce, except Bruce was subbed out of the match with 12:01 left on the clock.
Idaho should have been playing a man down, but at full strength, they sent a ball towards the Highlanders goal with just over two minutes to go. At the same time as goalkeeper Annie Bailey came off the line to retrieve the ball, defender Makenna Herrero slid into it in an effort to direct it back towards Bailey. Bailey couldn't get back in time, and the Vandals took a 1-0 lead.
