Reno, NV—UC Riverside's Faith Makau came in fourth place Friday evening at the 2017 Nature Bakery Nevada Twilight Classic in what was the season opener for the Highlanders' Women's Cross Country Team. The senior finished in a time of 14:52, just nine seconds off the pace set by Nevada's trio of Lindsey Adams, Hiley Dobbs and Stefanie Ortega (14:41).
The event was scored as a series of dual meet, with the Highlanders beating Saint Mary's (CA) and William Jessup, but falling to the host Wolfpack.
"We raced a partial squad on the women's side," said Coach Robert Hansen following the meet. "It was nice to see Faith back in a UC Riverside jersey after red-shirting her spring track season. She and Emily ran very confidently, and the rest of our ladies ran markedly better than last year."

Makau's fourth place finish marked the seventh top-five finish of her collegiate career.
Junior Emily Sanchez's 10th-place finish was the best of her career. Previously, she finished 27th (2015) and 18th (2016) at the Nevada Twilight Classic.
Sophomore Samantha Poliakon's 12th-place finish was the best of her career. She finished in 25th place at last year's Nevada Twilight Classic.
