San Luis Obispo, CA—In its Big West season-opener at Cal Poly (5-4-0), the UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team (0-8-0) erased a first half deficit courtesy of a goal from sophomore forward Anthony Lopez in the 34th minute. Despite staying level with the Mustangs until the 80th minute, the Highlanders conceded two goals over the final ten minutes to take a 3-1 defeat.

Lopez's goal was his second of the season, tying him with Antonio Lokossou for most on the team. He is also the Highlanders' leader in assists (2), points (6) and shots (20).

With five saves, goalkeeper Vincent Morales tied his career-high in games against conference rival Cal Poly, which was initially set in UC Riverside's 1-0 win on October 1, 2016 (box score/recap). It also tied his third-highest save total this season.
