FRESNO, Calif. – The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders dropped the third and final game of their opening weekend series against Fresno State, 5-1.
UCR jumped into an early lead when
Anthony Mata sent
Jacob Shanks home with an RBI single through the left side. In the bottom of the first the Bulldogs evened the score at 1-1 with an RBI-single of their own.
Fresno State added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead 3-1.
UC Riverside battled for a comeback but were overpowered by the Bulldogs offense and were unable to answer back as Fresno State added a run each in the fifth and sixth innings. Fresno state took the third game of the series with a final score of 5-1.
The Highlanders will return to action on Tuesday, February 22 with their 2022 home opener against Washington State set to begin at the Riverside Sports Complex at 6:00 PM.
