Riverside—Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with the UC Riverside Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and chosen men's soccer players Aaron Long and Hayden Leslie as its December recipients of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." Please visit the Budweiser Responsibility Matters web page to view past recipients.
This season, both Long and Leslie were named to the 2013 Big West Men's Soccer All-Conference Second Team.
Long tied for the team lead in goals with three this season, and finished third in points. The midfielder scored a game-winning goal against Marist on September 1 (recap/box score/video highlight), and scored in the matches against UNLV (recap/box score/video highlight) and Bakersfield (recap/box score).
Long's one assist came in the come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton (recap/box score/video highlight), which allowed the team to secure the third seed in the Big West Conference.
Leslie, a defender, helped the Highlanders break their all-time records for shutouts in a season with seven. He also scored a game-winning goal against UNLV on September 22 (recap/box score/video highlight). Leslie was the recipient of the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week for matches played between August 26 through September 1 (recap).
