Yorba Linda, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Golf Team lowered its score in each subsequent round at The Gold Rush Presented by Farmer's Insurance, and saved the best round for last Tuesday jumping up three spots into a tie for third to conclude the event. The Highlanders total score of 913 tied them with Cal State Fullerton, placing them behind only host Long Beach State in second, and No. 47 Gonzaga in first.
The Highlanders were in seventh after their first round 317 on Monday, but used four scores in the 70's to jump up one spot following round two with a 301. In the third round, UCR improved by six more strokes for a 295—the second lowest score on the day, and UC Riverside's third-lowest score all year.
UC Riverside's third place finish is also its highest finish this spring.
Savannah Vilaubi led the way individually for UCR, finishing fourth out of 60 competitors with scores of 78-71-70 for a 219 total. Vilaubi was only four shots back of the winner, Gonzaga's Alice Kim, with a 215 three-round score.
