SAN DIEGO - UC Riverside finished out the Campbell Cartier Classic on Sunday with a 12-5 loss to Oregon and a 4-3 loss to LMU.
Kat Montuya put a little scare into the Ducks in the second inning with a two-run shot to left center that also scored Max Ortega, whose leadoff single on an 0-2 pitch put the Highlanders in business. Oregon would pull ahead with a big second inning of their own, but Haylee Kela made the first game of the day a bit more manageable with a three-run shot in the third.
Kela's homer was the Highlanders' second of the day that came following a leadoff base hit. The Long Beach native was UCR's offensive go-to against the Lions as well, going 1 for 3 in the tournament finale with a pair of RBIs.
Jackie Alday had a day at the plate as well, turning in a 2-for-3 afternoon with two runs, including the Highlanders' first of the game.
UC Riverside is next headed to the Mary Nutter Classic beginning on Thursday, February 23 with a 12:30 p.m. first pitch against Bethune-Cookman at Big League Dreams in Cathedral City.
